Today No Deen Club...but yesterday a Muslim World Extravaganza!

Yesterday our Deen Club family met at Br. Suffian’s and Sr. Nagum’s home. The Deen Star’s needed to present 10 facts about any Muslim country in the world. They also needed to wear the costume from that country and prepare a dish.

Br. Suffian began the presentation by talking briefly about the spread of Islam and explained some background information on each country.

We started off in Africa with Huda talking us through Egypt with some interesting facts and a handmade pyramid.

Abdulla, Ma’moon and Raya presented a country where one of the oldest civilisations existed- Iraq. We learnt many historic facts, understood why Ma’moon is called... 'Ma’moon' and the name of the place Sr. Nagum is from Samarra which dates back to 690 BC. Abdulla and Ma’moon took turns at reading in Arabic and translating, and Raya waved her flag with unwavering enthusiasm.

Next we travelled to a Muslim country full of beauty and culture, Turkey. Turkey being so special resulted in two of our Deen Star students doing a presentation.

Khadija’s presentation was filmed with commentary on the Blue Masjid. She explained how the Masjid controversially had six minarets, and caused the Masjid al-Harram especially to have its seventh minaret erected as a result of this.

Hafsa’s PPT presentation included fun facts on Turkey. Did you know the Turkey bird got its name from Turkey? Or that there is a city called Batman?

We then crossed over the Indian Ocean to Indonesia presented by Layth. He explained using a PPT different facts about the country. Indonesia is home to the Komodo dragon and its population is almost all Muslims!

After that we went to a neighbouring Muslim country called Malaysia presented by Umar and Saffiyya. Both Umar and Saffiyya completed a beautiful poster of the country with 10 important facts. We learnt that they love to eats lots of rice and their national dress is a long a shirt and trousers called a "baju melayu."

Zahra called us back over the Indian Ocean to Africa- Morocco. She read out an interesting account of her own travels to Morocco and explained the history and geography of this richly cultural country. Zahra made a beautiful collage of photos and maps from Morocco with captions to explain each picture.

After the presentations we all couldn’t decide where to go on our next holiday... decisions, decisions! But we definitely knew we were starving and so we headed off to a three course international feast:
Starters:
Soup from Egypt and Salad from Turkey.
Main Meal:
Rice with prawns from Indonesia
Chicken from Malaysia
Chicken roast from Morocco
Steak and Pie from Iraq
Dessert
Cake from Malaysia
Naseeba (fortune) cookies from China
Chocolate Cake from the local shops!
Drinks:
Freshly squeezed orange juice
Turkish coffee

We had a wonderful, educational evening and we all went away feeling proud to be Muslim and being part of the Muslim Ummah. May Allah (SWA) bless our Ummah and make us strong in our deen and imman, Ameen
